Adjusting Time/Date Settings

TimeIPS synchronizes its time with a Network Time Protocol (NTP) Server or, if an Internet connection is not available, by its own hardware clock.
NOTE: If your display is off by one hour but the web pages show the correct time, restart your TimeIPS station.

  • From the keypad, type + - 2 0 + - [ENTER] to restart the station.
  • To restart the master station from the web pages, go to Administration - System Administration - System Settings and click on Restart Station.
  • To restart the client stations from the web pages, go to Administration - System Administration - Client Configuration and click on the IP address of the client station then click on Restart Station.

Security Level Required: System Administrator

Using the left pane Main Menu, click on: Administration » System Administration » System Settings

NOTE: Changing the time zone adjusts how time is displayed, but does not affect the actual time or time worked.

WARNING: Changing your time by restarting the NTP or manually adjusting the time may affect past time events, as well as time worked for currently clocked in employees. Ensure that all employee's are clocked out before adjusting the time to maintain the integrity of employee's time worked.

NOTE: Changing the time zone adjusts how time is displayed, but does not affect the actual time or time worked.

If you have an active "always on" Internet connection:

  1. Select the Time Zone from the pull-down menu.
  2. NOTE: If you have unique Daylight Savings Time boundaries, see "Editing DST Boundaries" below.

  3. Click on the Apply Changes button.
  4. Once the page refreshes, click on the Restart NTP button on the Automatic Time Synchronization tab.
  5. Once the page refreshes, click on the Restart Server button to restart the system, synchronizing the hardware clock with the software.

If you do NOT have an active "always on" Internet Connection OR you are setting the time and date for the first time:

  1. Select the Use Local Clock tab and adjust the time and date appropriately.
  2. NOTE: If you have unique Daylight Savings Time boundaries, see "Adjust Daylight Savings Time Boundaries" below.

  3. Click on the Apply Changes button to save the changes.
  4. Once the page refreshes, click on the Restart Server button to restart the system, synchronizing the hardware clock with the software.
  5. NOTE: TimeIPS stores time on a battery clock when it is without power. The battery clock's time is reset to the TimeIPS system time during reboot. Therefore, Restart Server after adjusting the Time Settings.

  • TimeIPS stores time in Universal Time (UTC, also known as Greenwich Mean Time or GMT) which never changes, despite daylight savings time changes (DST) and leap years. Each Time Zone is behind (UTC-) or ahead (UTC+) of Universal Time. TimeIPS uses the Time Zone setting to convert the displayed time based on the selected Time Zone.
  • The Master Time Zone is the time zone conversion displayed within TimeIPS. The Client Time Zone is the time zone conversion display for the small TimeIPS LCD display and for client time stations. The Client Time Zone is set in Client Configuration.

  • HINT: If you have multiple time stations, you can set the Client's NTP Server to the Master's IP address.

NOTE: If the time is set correctly in System Settings but the small LCD display is an hour (or more) off, check the Client's Time Zone. Use the "See Also" link below.

To view, edit, or adjust your time zone's Daylight Savings Time start and end dates and times, click on the "Edit DST boundaries for this timezone" link under the Time Zone pull-down.
