Installation Considerations
Your complete TimeIPS installation may include a single TimeIPS Master (server) station or a TimeIPS Master station and a number of client, or slave, stations.
|
NOTE: If you purchased multiple TimeIPS stations, one of the stations may be designated as a Master. The master is identified by the word "MASTER" on the Serial Number sticker on the bottom of the station and by the statement "This is your master station. Configure this system first" on the packing box label. The master station should be installed and configured first.
If you have multiple TimeIPS stations and are not sure which station should be configured as the Master, please contact us at 877.846.3256 for assistance.
If you have purchased a single system, it will be your master station.

Locate your serial number sticker on the bottom/back of the TimeIPS station.

Client Station
|
| Configuration |
Install first; requires initial configuration |
Install after Master is configured; Auto-detects Master on LAN; can be pointed to Master's IP Address for WAN installation |
| Data Storage |
Stores all employee and time data even when powered down |
Does not store data; data is transmitted through network to Master station in real-time |
| IP Addressing |
Must be set to a static IP address upon initial configuration; can set bookmarks within web browser for easy access to administrative pages |
Can be left to dynamically obtain an IP address (DHCP) or set to a static address |
| Accessing Data |
Browse to master station's static IP address to login using secure username/password to access administrative pages based on assigned administrative privileges |
Browse to master station's static IP address; Client stations are used solely for clocking in and out. |
| Clocking |
May be used as dedicated server or as a clock station |
Clock in and out from the client station using the employee identification device installed. |
| Additional Requirements |
AC Power outlet is required (See "Power Requirements" below); A computer with a web browser on the same network, with access to the network, or directly connected to the TimeIPS Master station is required to maintain employee records, view and edit time data and run payroll reports |
An AC power outlet is required; A network connection is required to connect a client station to the Master station |
| Time to Install |
Less than one hour if an AC outlet and network port are accessible on a DHCP network |
Less than 20 minutes if an AC outlet and network port are accessible on a DHCP network
|
Location
The master station should be installed in a relatively secure location with the most favorable environmental conditions possible. We recommend a TimeIPS station at each employee entrance to your facility and/or in your central break-room. Each station will require an AC power outlet and a network connection, which may be temporary or permanent, based on the type of station. The station(s) can be connected to any location on your network (wall plate jack, switch or hub).
Environmental Requirements
TimeIPS Master and Client stations must be installed where the ambient temperature is 32-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Enclosed areas must be vented or cooled with a fan. TimeIPS cannot be used outside unless protected by a completely weather-proof, temperature and condensation protected enclosure. In the event of moisture or condensation, the unit must be unplugged and allowed to dry. Damage caused by improper installation or operation is not covered under the warranty. Since TimeIPS Master stations store information, we recommend these receive the best environmental installation. Client stations do not store information and, in the event of a failure, there is no risk of data loss.
Power Requirements
TimeIPS requires 110V AC power and draws 50-100 Watts, depending on the model and options. We recommend a power backup system such as an APC 1100VA UPS or better to provide run-time for the TimeIPS server in the event of a short power-failure. As long as connectivity is available to the server, a manager would be able to log-into TimeIPS and clock out employees during this time. If client stations have battery backup-ups as well, employees can clock themselves out as needed.
Best practice: 1100VA+ UPS on Master; 500VA+ UPS on clients. Additional surge protection.

Please examine the example diagram [Figure A] to assist in planning your TimeIPS installation. Additional client stations can be added at any time to other entrances or any location within your business.
