Using Telephone Clocking on the same line as a Fax Machine.
You can connect the TimeIPS Telephone Clocking system on the same line as a Fax Machine. .
Connecting a VOIP box and a fax machine to the same telephone line.
You might choose to connect your VOIP box to a line that also has a fax machine. When you have a VOIP box on the same telephone line as a fax machine, the VOIP box answers all calls. The fax machine listens for fax calling CNG tones. If the fax hears them, the fax machine takes over the call and receives the fax. If it doesn't hear CNG tones, the fax machine lets the VOIP box continues to take the call.
The VOIP box must answer within 2 rings. The fax machine cannot hear CNG tones (handshake) until the VOIP box has answered the call.
Connections
- Plug the line from the wall jack into fax machine's jack labeled LINE.
- Plug the line from your VOIP box into the fax machine's jack labeled EXT/TAD/PHONE.
(NOTE: Make sure this is connected to the VOIP jack labeled line, and not jack labeled telephone.)
- Set the fax machine's answer mode to TAD.
(NOTE: See your fax machines owners manual for instructions on how to change its answer mode.)
